Vera Mae Cooper Williams, 57, formerly of Etowah, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at her residence in Knoxville.

She was baptized and raised at Harwell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Etowah, and became a member of Eternal Life Harvest Center in Knoxville, where she served on the usher board. She retired from Levi Strauss Company, and was preceded in death by her parents, Frank J. and Catherine Williams; one son, Zachary Leon Williams; one sister, Barbara Williams; one brother, Tommy Lee Williams; and her husband, Bill Cooper.

Survivors include her devoted husband, John Edward Williams; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frankie and Jody Williams and Michael and Denise Williams, all of Etowah; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty and French Jarrett of Etowah, Mary and William Ferguson of Nashville, Gloria Williams of Atlanta, Ga., and Virginia Jackson and Gwendolyn Williams, both of Etowah; a devoted niece and caretaker, Darlene Jarrett; a devoted friend, Joe Godfrey; a host of stepchildren, including Kisha Clark and Travis and Frank Williams; a host of grandchildren, including Shannon Williams; five sisters-in-law, Sherly Rooker, Emma Imes, Mary King, Gloria Williams and Lucile Murphy; two brothers-in-law, Mack Williams and Frank Murphy; and a host of devoted and close relatives and friends including the Rev. Sandie Peters, Ruth Ann Rosario, and Susie Bruner.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Wynn officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Etowah.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation by friends will begin after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
