Robert Allen Mize

Robert Allen Mize, 81, of Knoxville, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at St. Mary\'s North.

He was a longtime prominent banker in the Knoxville area. He began his career with Hamilton National Bank in 1948 and retired as Senior Executive Vice President of First Tennessee Bank in 1991. He was a member of Inskip United Methodist Church and was active in Easter Seals, Kiwanis and other community service groups for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Mize; two brothers, William Sanders Mize Jr. and James Beecher Mize; one sister, Kathleen Julian; one granddaughter, Myra Mize Slawek; and his parents, William Sanders Mize and Gertrude Underwood Mize.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Maura Mize of Lake Charles, La.; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Larry Rhodes of Athens; grandchildren and their spouses, Will and Vivian Mize, Matt Mize, Meghan and Justin Sylvester, Melissa Rhodes and Robert and Marianne Rhodes; great grandchildren, Jake and Julia Slawek, Whitson and Josie Mize and Lily Harper Sylvester; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Dr. James E. Robertson officiating. Entombment will follow in Lynnhurst Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul Ledbetter, Bill Delozier, Jeff Mize, John Meade, Lucas Hurd and Mike Robinson.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of your choice.
