Oil painting class among numerous Sr. Ctr. activities
ETOWAH - I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day. Wouldn't it be nice if we could change it to Mother's Day week? Not going to happen, I'm afraid. I am very fortunate to have a 12-year old-son, even though I am 68, and he sure made my day special with homemade gifts, cards and lots of hugs and kisses. |

Freedman Chapel of Athens will have Women's Day Celebration 2012 on Sunday, May 13, at 11 a.m., with guest speaker Lesia Dunn, of Star Bethel Baptist Church in Etowah. The theme will be "Women Striving for Perfection." |

Etowah Senior Center Pre-summer sale nearing
ETOWAH - There are flyers all over town giving information about our pre-summer sale on Friday, May 4. If you have not seen them, let us share that information with you. The Etowah Area Senior Center, located at 435 Cooper Street is having a sale on that day from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. We will have crafts and a bake sale. Also, hot dogs and popcorn can be purchased while browsing our yard sale donations. The sale will take place inside and outside our facility. For those in the community that may want to sell your wares here we will be renting tables to vendors. Call us at 263-1209 and we will give you the information you need to set up. |

Religious Services and Photos - April 20
Ten Mile United Methodist Church: is seeking applications for its 2012 Promise Scholarship. Applicants must be a senior at Meigs County High School who will graduate in 2012, maintains a GPA of at least 2.5 and plans to attend a university, community college and/or a technical/vocational school. Applications are available from the guidance counselors at Meigs County High School. Deadline for submitting an application is April 30. |

Mountain View students win at Science Olympiad
Mountain View School participated in the Science Olympiad Regional Tournament on March 17, the second year of participation for the school. Two Mountain View teams competed with nine teams total at the tournament. They won 10 medals and placed third in the regional tournament, giving them an invitation to the state tournament. These students have been working since last fall. Principal Angie Covington and seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher Diane Bowman have been very supportive of the students and were present at their awards ceremony. School Board member Henry Webb also stopped by to show his support to the students. The awards they won at the regional tournament are as follows: Anatomy: Josh Riley (not pictured), second place; "Compute This:" Hannah Smith and Samantha Coleman, second place; Karsan Warner and Cierra Widener, third place; Crime Busters: Cierra Widener and Morgan Warner, third place; Experimental Design: Michala Jenkins and Jordan Nelson, third place; "Keep the Heat:" Cierra Widener and Lauren Steed, third place; Microbe Mission: Josh Riley and Hannah Alloway (second place); Mission Possible: Alex Cresswell, third place; Towers: Megan Works and Matt Wells, first place; "Write it Do it:" Karsan Warner and Lauren Steed, third place. |
